The Australian Bachata Championship
The Australian Bachata Championship Is the competition featuring the best Bachata dancers in the country competing for the title of Australian Bachata Champions 2018 . The Championship is catered for Bachata Couples and Bachata Teams.

COUPLES
Bachata Couples competing for the title of Australian Bachata Champions 2018
All Couple Categories (Professional / Semi-Professionals / Pro-Amateur and Amateur Couples) will dance TWO ROUNDS.
FIRST ROUND – FREESTYLE (80%)
All couple categories will dance a FRESTYLE component / Value 80% total score.
The Freestyle component will consist of one song drawn from a hat (freestyle) for 2 minutes & 15 seconds.
SECOND ROUND – JACK & JILL (20%)
All couple categories will dance a JACK & JILL component / Value 20% total score.
All dancers will dance one song drawn from a hat (freestyle) for 2 minutes & 15 seconds with a partner drawn from a hat from his/her dance category. Judges will give each dancer individual scores that subsequent will be added to their “Free Style” couple scores.
CHOREOGRAPHY SHOWCASES 2018
At the Australian Bachata Championship, we will also have the CHOREOGRAPHY SHOWCASES aiming for Couples competing for the title of the Best Bachata Choreography 2018.
The Best Bachata Choreography competition is open and FREE of charge for any couple that has competed in one of the Couple Categories at the Australian Bachata Championship 2018 who wish to perform a choreographed song of their choice. This song must be of a minimum of 2 minutes & 15 seconds and not exceeding 3 minutes.
TEAMS
Couples dancing Bachata as a team competing for the title of Australian Bachata Team Champions 2018.
All Teams Categories (Professional / Amateurs / Shines) will dance a choreographed song of their choice. This song must be of a minimum of 2 minutes and 15 seconds and not exceeding 3 minutes.
AUSTRALIAN BACHATA CHAMPIONSHIP – OFFICIAL RULES
- Open to all couples living in Australia over the age of 16 years old.
- Participants in the Couple Categories must be a couple of different genders.
- Competitors can live in two different Australian States but compete representing just one of them.
- There is no limit on the number of categories that a competitor can register and compete.
- Competitors can represent a Dance School, organization or just on their own. There is no limit to the number of competitors that can represent a particular school or organization.
- The music selected for the choreographies in the Teams, Shines, and Showcases MUST be 80% of recognized Bachata music. A panel of judges will assets your music to determine if compile with this requirement.
- All music for Choreographies, Teams, and Shines MUST be provided to the Championship Director NOT LATER than 10 days before the competition.
PRICING
If you enter a Freestyle/Jack and Jill division, you are entitled to a free entry into 1 couple Choreo per Freestyle/Jack and Jill entry.
Your first entry to any division is $100 and anything else you enter after that is $70.
Eg:
- 1 Freestyle and Jack & Jill + 1 Couple Choreo =$100
- 1 Freestyle and Jack & Jill + 1 Team Choreo = $170
- 1 Freestyle and Jack & Jill + 1 Couple Choreo + 1 Team Choreo = $170
- 3 Team Choreos and 1 Couple Choreo = $310
- 3 Freestyle and Jack & Jill = $240
(All registrations fee includes the entry fee for the two nights of the Championship)
JUDGES
Judges will be appointed at the sole discretion of the Championship Director.
Disputes – In the event of any dispute, the Competition Director and the Head Judge of the Panel will make a final decision.
The results and decisions of the Judges will be final, binding, and conclusive on all matters.
By entering this contest, entrants accept and agree to be bound by these Official Rules.
JUDGING CRITERIADancers will be judged (from 1 to 10) in the following criteria:
Rhythm/Timing (30%)Do the Dancers exhibit an understanding of the rhythm? Can they maintain the rhythm? When required can they change between the rhythms & syncopations. Are “Highlights” on time?
Musicality (30%) Ability to interpret the music and match the dance to the music. Do the Dancers dance with movements & steps that match the music played Partnering (20%)Couple Dynamics – Body Movement & flow. Do they interact with each other, dance as a couple. Is there something happening between them or are they just 2 individuals, doing their own thing
Overall Presentation /Appearance (20%)The complete package. Their entrance and exit, introduction steps, end poses, stage presence & confidence. Moves should be well executed. Any highlights and step sequences should not interrupt the flow of the dance. Do the costumes match; suit the dancers and the performance.
FOR TEAMS & SHINES Choreography
Are Highlights well placed? Are the moves original (creation or re-creation of moves)? What is the level of difficulty of the moves? How dynamic and clean is their presentation? Does the dancers’ styling suit Bachata dancing and each other, is it unique, does it add to the performance or does it detract from the dance?
PRIZES
Below are the prizes awarded at the Australian Bachata Championship.
NOTE *In any given Category with money prizes, a minimum of 4 entries is necessary for Prize Money to be awarded.
If in any given Category there is not the minimum of 4 entries, only trophies will be awarded to Winners, Second & Third places.

- Invitation to perform at the Sydney Bachata Festival 2019
- Second & third place – Trophies awarding second and third place respectively.
- Two trophies awarding the title of “Australian Pro/Am Bachata Champion 2018”.
- Invitation to perform at the Sydney Bachata Festival 2019
- Second & third place – Trophies awarding second and third place respectively.
- One trophy awarding the title of “Australian Bachata Team Champions 2018”.
- $1000 cash prize
- Invitation to perform at the Sydney Bachata Festival 2019
- Second & third place – Trophies awarding second and third place respectively.

By entering this contest, entrant agrees to release Viva Magazine, and their directors and all others associated with the development and execution of this Championship from any claims, actions, and liability for any injury, losses, damages, resulting from participation in this contest.
Furthermore, all finalists agree to have their names, biographical information, and photograph published In Australian Bachata Championship website and Social media, including but not limited to photographic, video or written comments regarding the competition experience.
